Can Tampings Improve Production Efficiency Underground?

by Ninya Claassen | Aug 17, 2026 | Knowledge Hub

In underground mining, production efficiency is not determined by how fast a single task is completed, but by how smoothly the entire cycle progresses from drilling and blasting to mucking, hauling, and crushing. A bottleneck at the blast face creates a ripple effect...

How Does Tamping Affect Rock Fragmentation?

by Ninya Claassen | Aug 12, 2026 | Knowledge Hub

In mining and quarrying, explosive energy takes the path of least resistance. If a blast hole is not properly sealed, that energy will shoot out of the collar, resulting in noise, flyrock, and poor rock breakage. Tamping (or stemming) affects rock fragmentation by...

What is the difference between bulk tampings and capsule tampings?

by Ninya Claassen | Jul 16, 2026 | Knowledge Hub

The main difference between bulk tampings and capsule tampings is how the stemming material is packaged, delivered and placed inside the blast hole. Bulk tamping is supplied as a loose or free-flowing compound that is loaded directly into the hole. Capsule tamping is...

Customised Tamping Products for Mines

by Ninya Claassen | Jul 7, 2026 | Knowledge Hub

Can tamping products be customised for different mines? Yes, tamping and stemming products can be customised to suit different mining conditions. However, customisation should never mean guesswork. In South African mining, tamping products must still support...

How Tampings Improve Blast Performance

by Ninya Claassen | Jul 2, 2026 | Knowledge Hub

How do tampings improve blast performance? In South African mining, tampings help support better blast control by improving the confinement of explosive energy inside the shot hole. Although tampings may appear to be a small blasting consumable, their effect can be...

Why Choose a Specialist Tamping Supplier

by OGM Mining Supplies | Jun 11, 2026 | Knowledge Hub

Choosing a specialist tamping supplier is not only a procurement decision. In South African mining, it affects blasting consistency, compliance confidence, production flow, and supplier risk. A general industrial supplier may be able to move stock. However, a...
